Position: Principal Manufacturing Engineer (Full Time, Immediate)

As the Principal Manufacturing Engineer, you will be leading the engineering transition of our successful Product Development efforts into Full Rate Production. Within the First 6 Months:

The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will formalize the Company’s production processes and procedures and strive for continuous productivity and quality improvements/enhancements.

  • Develop and document effective production procedures and create company standards to meet the safety, quality, and efficiency requirements for products transitioning to full rate production
  • Provide technical leadership and provide individual contribution for engineering tasks to support Altaeros SuperTower™, assembly, integration, and test lines.
  • Prepares effective plans, conducts support studies and provides analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing operations
  • Leads and/or participates in project teams coordinating the efforts of engineers, technicians, and other professionals of various disciplines/departments to design, develop, and continuously improve product, processes, equipment, fixture
  • Create, review, or complete engineering documentation related to assigned engineering tasks, such as project plans, component and assembly drawings, BOMs, Master Validation plan/reports, pFMEAs, Work Instructions
  • Assure that all MFG documentation complies with the quality system requirements, applicable government regulations and applicable national and international standards
  • Facilitate and drive development priorities, ensuring timely coordination and execution of experiments
  • Troubleshoots for manufacturing processes assembly processes and equipment downtime issues, with the understanding of the cost impact
  • Lead, develop, grow, and mentor the Production Engineering team.

    Additional responsibilities will include: 

    • Maintain knowledge and technical expertise of current production best practices tools and techniques and implement them in a reasonable and responsible manner.
    • Develop and implement enhanced production testing of products
    • Collect, analyze, summarize and present production and process data, information, and trends to management.
    • Create and maintain accurate and current documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, and orders, in accordance with the Product Development and Quality Assurance functions.
    • Source new equipment and material suppliers as required
    • Support process engineering change notice (ECN) and related Material Review Board (MRB) activities, as required.
    • Assist in the evaluation of returned materials/products.
    • Review internal operational facility layouts for process improvement.
    • Estimate staffing requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions.
    • Assess current in-house manufacturing capabilities and plan for a shop build out as necessary.  Consider what capabilities we want to grow in-house, and what we want to use outside services for.
    • Review supplier manufacturing plans and inspection/test plans to ensure they produce the components, assemblies, documentation, inspection checks, and quality we require.
    • Participate in design reviews and be a voice for manufacturing (DFMA, Quality, etc.)
    • Help architect product from early concept stages to be successful in manufacturing, service, etc.


    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering, computer science, physics, or equivalent
    • 15 years of combined experience in engineering and/or manufacturing, in support of new product development transitioning to full-rate production
    • 7+ years of work experience with new product teams design and design for manufacturability of new products
    • Strong working knowledge of the latest manufacturing engineering and related product design practices with high proficiency in Lean, 6 Sigma, or other structured continuous improvement methods
    • Exceptional math and analytical skills to adequately analyze manufacturing needs from equipment selection to the detailed lean process flows required for high-volume manufacturing
    • Deep familiarity with ISO-9001:2015 or similar quality standards
    • Execution-oriented, driven, and self-motivated
    • A “Startup Attitude”: quick learner, passionate, nimble, and adaptable- you get creative when the answer is not obvious
