ALTAEROS ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AND INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD-SPONSORED EXERCISE, T-REX 24-2
Camp Atterbury, Indiana, USA — Autonomous Aerostat Innovator, Altaeros, announced their involvement in the Technology Readiness Experimentation T-REX 24-2, sponsored by the Department of Defense (DOD), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUS(R&E)), and Indiana National Guard. Altaeros is providing an ST-Flex aerostat and will be demonstrating autonomous features such as launch, recovery, and active flight controls while showcasing a multifunctional payload including IMSAR’s NSP-7 radar, Silvus Technologies’ Streamcaster 4400E 4×4 MIMO radio, and an EO/IR sensor. The event will take place August 19 – 28 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana (CAIN).

T-REX 24-2 is a full-scale exercise that allows Industry partners to demonstrate selected technologies in an operationally relevant environment. The payload onboard ST-Flex, comprised of technologies from IMSAR, Silvus Technologies, and others, will be flown at a height of 1000ft above ground level to support many other demonstrations during the event. This multifunctional payload provided radar, extended communications, and visual cuing allowing multi-domain data sharing across the industry demonstrators. Altaeros’ unique payload bay allows multiple technologies to be integrated on a single platform, when historically they may have needed separate pieces of infrastructure to be deployed.
“We are excited to be selected for this opportunity to not only showcase our autonomous aerostat platform but also the unique capabilities of our partners,” remarked Altaeros President, Jeff Lloyd-Jones, “Our combined teams designed and optimized these 3 unique pieces of equipment to be able to support multiple mission sets during T-REX 24-2. We are eager to see it fly!”
About Altaeros
Altaeros is the world’s premier autonomous aerostat innovator. Altaeros’ patented autonomous control system, Aerostat Autopilot™, eliminates the need for a traditional ground crew to perform all day-to-day aerostat operations including launching, landing, and ongoing flight operation. Eliminating the ground crew extends mission availability in challenging wind conditions, while simplifying logistics and operations.
Altaeros is headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts and operates an R&D Center in Fremont, New Hampshire. All Altaeros aerostats are assembled in the USA.
